Metallica é uma banda estadunidense de heavy metal formada em 1981, na cidade de Los Angeles, Califórnia. Fundada quando o baterista Lars Ulrich colocou um anúncio no jornal Recycler, de Los Angeles. A formação original do Metallica consistia de Ulrich na bateria, guitarrista e vocalista James Hetfield, guitarrista Dave Mustaine e baixista Ron McGovney.
